Dentistry For Kids in Upper Arlington, OH
Starting your child off with a strong foundation of oral health and wellness helps prevent decay, disease and many common dental problems later on. As a child’s mouth grows, develops and transforms, both in-office and at-home care are essential for their overall health.
When Should My Child First Go to the Dentist?
We recommend making an appointment with our team approximately six months after you see your child’s first tooth come in. Usually, this is around the time a child turns one. However, if you have any concerns or questions about pediatric oral health prior to the erruption of your child’s first tooth, we welcome you to come in sooner for an appointment.
As a parent or guardian, we also want to make sure you’re equipped to help your child to the best of your abilities with their oral health. We’ll use this time to lay out a clear path and plan for you to work with your child as their teeth continue to come in and their mouth changes.
By seeing your child early on in the development of their teeth, we can closely follow their growth and get them on a secure path to lifelong dental health.
What Happens During a Kids Dental Appointment?
For your child’s first dental appointment, Dr. Chris King, Dr. Paul King and the team focus primarily on helping your child adjust to being in a dentist’s office and getting comfortable in the chair. Our priority is eliminating any fears of the dentist as early as possible and making hygiene enjoyable for children.
Next, we will closely examine your child’s mouth and their erupting teeth. If we see anything that could lead to issues further down the line, we’ll discuss it with you and create a potential treatment plan. A professional dental cleaning is included in the first appointment, too.
We will also provide both you and your child with the necessary dental education to maintain a healthy mouth. For you as a parents or guardian, this includes signs you should watch for as your child’s teeth arrive, like healthy milestones and any warning signs.
For patients, we’ll discuss the importance of brushing, flossing and eating a healthy diet in language they understand and that makes sense.
